After making purification for our sins, He sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become much better than angels, having inherited a more excellent name than any of them. 5 To which angel did He ever say, "You are My Son, today I have begotten You." And again He said, "I will be a Father to Him and He shall be a Son to Me." 6 And when He again brings the Firstborn into the world He says, "And let all the angels of God worship Him." 7 And of the angels He says, "Who makes His angels spirits, and His ministers a flame of fire." 8 But of the Son He says, "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter is the scepter of Your kingdom." 9 "You have loved righteousness and hated iniquity. Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness above Your companions." 10 And, "You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands." 11 "They will perish, but You remain. They will become old like a garment," 12 "and like a mantle You will roll them up. Like a garment they will be changed, but You are the same, and Your years will never end." 13 To which of the angels did He ever say, "Sit at My right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool?" 14 Are not the angels ministering spirits, sent forth to minister to those who shall inherit salvation? Hebrews 2 - RWB Paraphrase (18 V) See Chapter at a Glance See Comments Go to top 1 For this reason we should pay very close attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. 2 For if the word spoken through angels cannot be altered, and every misdeed receives its just penalty, 3 how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was first spoken by the LORD, it was confirmed to us by those who heard Him. 4 God used signs and wonders and various miracles, all by gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to God's will. 5 For He did not place these things in subjection to the angels in the world to come, of which we speak, 6 but as scripture says, "What is man that you remember him, or the Son of Man that you are concerned about Him?" 7 "You have made him a little lower than the angels, crowning him with glory and honor, and have appointed him over the works of your hands." 8 "You have put all things in subjection under His feet. But this has not been completed yet." 9 However, we see that Jesus, who was made for a while lower than the angels, has suffered death, but is now crowned with glory and honor. So it was in God's plan He might taste death for everyone. 10 For it was fitting for Him, who made all things and for whom all things exist, to bring many sons to glory, and to be made the Captain of their salvation through His perfect sufferings. 11 For both He who sanctifies and those sanctified are one. How amazing that He is not ashamed to call them brothers. 12 He says, "I will proclaim Your name to My brethren, and in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise." 13 And again, "I will put my trust in Him. And again, behold, I and the children whom God has given Me." 14 Since the children share in flesh and blood, He also partook of the same, that through death He might make powerless the devil who has the power of death, 15 and make free those who feared death and have been in bondage all of their lives. 16 He does not give help to angels but He does help the descendants of Abraham. 17 So He had to be made like His brothers in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in all things pertaining to God, in order to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. 18 For since He Himself has suffered temptation, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted. Hebrews 3 - RWB Paraphrase (19 V) See Chapter at a Glance See Comments Go to top 1 Therefore, holy brethren and partakers of the heavenly calling, consider Jesus Christ, the Apostle and High Priest of our profession. 2 As Moses was faithful in all his house, so Jesus Christ was faithful to Him who appointed Him. 3 For He has been accounted worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the one who builds has more honor than what he builds. 4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of all things. 5 Now Moses was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony of things which would be spoken of later, 6 so Christ was faithful as a Son over His house, and we are that house if we hold fast our confidence in Him until the end. 7 Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, "Today if you hear His voice," 8 "do not harden your hearts as they did when they were tried in the wilderness and provoked Me," 9 "where your fathers tested Me, and saw My works for forty years." 10 "Therefore I was angry with this generation, and said, they always go astray in their heart, and they did not know My ways," 11 "as I swore in My wrath, saying, they shall not enter My rest." 12 Take care, brethren, that none of you have an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from God. 13 Instead, encourage one another every day as long as you live, so that none of you will be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ, as we continue to hold fast to that in which we first placed our confidence. 15 As scripture says, "Today if you hear His voice, do not harden you hearts, as when they provoked Me." 16 And who was it that provoked Him when they heard His voice? Wasn't it those who Moses led out of Egypt? 17 And who was He angry with for forty years? Wasn't it those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter into His rest? It was those who did not believe. 19 So we see that their unbelief kept them from entering. Hebrews 4 - RWB Paraphrase (16 V) See Chapter at a Glance See Comments Go to top 1 We should be careful to not come short of entering into the rest He has promised. 2 For we have had good news preached to us, just as they did. The word they heard did not profit them because they were not united in faith in the word they heard. 3 We believe we have entered into that rest, though they did not. For He said, "As I swore in My wrath, they shall not enter My rest," although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For He said concerning the seventh day, "And God rested on the seventh day from all His works." 5 And in another place He said, "They shall not enter My rest." 6 So it remains for some to enter this rest, while others who have heard the good news preached, fail to enter in because of disobedience. 7 Through David He speaks of a certain day, saying, "Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts." 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of yet another day. 9 So there remains a Sabbath rest for God's people. 10 For the one who enters God's rest, rests from his works, just as God rested from His. 11 Therefore, let us be diligent to enter that rest, lest any of us fall through unbelief and disobedience, as they did in the wilderness. 12 For God's word is living, active and sharper that any twoedged sword, able to pierce as far as the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 None of His creatures are hidden from His sight. All things are open and laid bare to His eyes. 14 Seeing that we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all points as we have, and yet without sin. 16 Therefore, let us draw near to the throne of grace with confidence, that we may find mercy and grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 5 - RWB Paraphrase (14 V) See Chapter at a Glance See Comments Go to top 1 Every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of things pertaining to God, that he may offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2 He can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, since he himself has weakness. 3 Because of this he offers sacrifices for sin, for the people, and also for himself. 4 No one takes this honor for himself, but receives it when he is called by God, just as Aaron was. 5 And so, Christ did not glorify Himself by becoming high priest, but God the Father said to Him, "You are My Son. Today I have begotten You." 6 In another place He said, "You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek." 7 In the days of His flesh, Jesus Christ offered up prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death and because of His piety He was heard. 8 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things He suffered. 9 And being perfect, He became the Author of eternal salvation to those who obeyed Him. 10 He was designated by God as a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.
We have many things to say concerning Him, but it is difficult to explain, because you do not hear so well.
For by this time you should be teachers, but you still need someone to teach you the elementary principles of God's oracles. You need milk when you should be taking solid food.
Those taking only milk are not used to the word of righteousness, for they are babes.
Solid food is for the mature, who have trained themselves to discern good and evil.
