Philemon 1 - RWB Paraphrase (25 V) See Chapter at a Glance Go to top 1 Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our beloved brother and fellow worker, 2 and Apphia our sister, and Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house. 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the LORD Jesus Christ. 4 I always remember you in my prayers to God, 5 because I have heard of your love and faith toward the LORD Jesus Christ and toward all the saints. 6 I pray that the fellowship of your faith will be effective through your knowledge of Jesus Christ. 7 Your love has brought me much comfort and joy, and the saints have been refreshed through you, my brother. 8 And though I have confidence in Christ to tell you what you should do, 9 for the sake of our love for each other I will appeal to you as the old man that I am, and as a prisoner of Christ Jesus. 10 I appeal to you for my child Onesimus, whom I have learned to love in my imprisonment. 11 Previously he was of no use to you but now he is useful to both of us. 12 I am sending him back to you and in doing this I am sending my very heart. 13 I would like to keep him here with me, so that through him you might minister to me in my imprisonment for the gospel. 14 But without your consent I would not do this. It would be wrong for me to keep him without your permission. 15 It might be that he was separated from you for a time so that you could then have him back forever, 16 no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother, as he is to me. And he can be even more of a brother to you, both in the flesh and in the LORD. 17 If you regard me as a partner, receive him as you would me. 18 If he has wronged you or cost you in any way, charge that to my account. 19 I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand. I will repay any loss you have suffered. Of course, I need not mention that you owe me your own self as well. 20 Please let me benefit from you in the LORD and refresh my heart in Christ. 21 As I write to you I have confidence that you will obey me by doing even more than I have suggested.
Please prepare a place for me to stay, for I hope that through your prayers I will be coming to you.
These greet you: Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus,
Aristarchus, Mark, Demas and Luke, all fellow workers with me.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
