1-8_The oracle of Nineveh written by Nahum the Elkoshite. The LORD is slow to anger and great in power. The clouds are dust beneath His feet. Mountains quake because of Him. Who can stand before His indignation? The LORD is good. He is a stronghold in the day of trouble. And He knows those who take refuge in Him.

__9-15_Whatever you devise against the LORD, He will make a complete end of it. Thus says the LORD to Jacob, though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no longer. I will break his yoke from upon you and tear off your shackles. Behold on the mountain the feet of him who brings good news and announces peace.

1-7_The One who scatters has come up against you. Pull yourself together and summon all your strength. The LORD will once again restore Jacob. Though Nineveh has many impressive implements of war, she is stripped of them and carried away.

__8-13_Nineveh has been envied throughout her history. Now she is in great trouble. Hearts are melting. Knees are knocking. Behold, I am against you, declares the LORD of Hosts. You are finished.

1-7_Woe to the bloody city, completely full of lies and pillage. The list of her terrible conduct goes on and on. So many people are dead because of her. It will come about that all who see Nineveh will be disgusted, and say, Nineveh is devastated! Who will grieve for her?

__8-19_Are you better than Ethiopia or Egypt? They have suffered greatly for their sin. So will you also suffer. The fire will consume you and the sword will cut you down. Your people are scattered on the mountains and there is no one to gather you back together. Your wound is incurable. All who hear about you will be amazed.
