Two By TwoIn God's original and perfect plan, He ordained that people exist in pairs. In fact, He designed that two shall become one. Genesis 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. Genesis 2:22-24 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. [23] And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. [24] Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Eve was created from a rib taken from Adam signifying that she was not to control him as the head, nor to be trampled under his feet as an inferior, but to stand by his side as an equal, to be loved and protected by him. God chose Adam's wife for him, and he gave him only one wife. When young people are considering marriage, God should be consulted in prayer, so that He can guide in making the right choice.
1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
1 Corinthians 13:4,5 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Concerning the idea of two becoming one, my Dad had a good way of putting it to a young boy with questions: Two with one purpose or goal.
Science is willing to suggest that this oneness may express itself even in our DNA - not just in our children, but in each other. You become physically what you would not be, were it not for your marriage partner.
Haven't you ever smiled to yourself as you looked at an older couple and marveled that they don't just act alike-they even look alike.
God's original plan seems to have designed that two actually become one in more than euphemistic ways. But our world is no longer perfect. Even Jesus, the perfect Man in an imperfect world was single.
In the Old Testament the family was paramount. In the New Testament, there were many broken families as a result of only one spouse accepting the gospel, and the other rejecting his or her believing spouse. God designed that the Church should help these broken families when appropriate. A little thinking can show how it would not have worked in heaven's plan for Jesus to have married. And yet, a plan was devised for Jesus to have a bride. The church triumphant is to be the bride of Christ. A good relationship with Jesus requires good relationships between members within His church. Just about everything we say about relationships can be readily applied to the church.
It is Satan's studied goal to divide
Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
