1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus. 2 To Timothy, my dearly beloved son. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3 I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience the way my forefathers did, as I always remember you in my prayers. 4 I longing for the joy of seeing you, even as I remember your tears. 5 I am mindful of your sincere faith, which was first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice. And I know it is in you as well. 6 This is why I am reminding you to rekindle the gift that God has given you through the laying on of hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power, love and discipline. 8 So do not be ashamed of the testimony of the LORD, and neither of me His prisoner, but join me in suffering for the gospel according to God's power. 9 He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not because of any of our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, granted to us in Christ Jesus before the world began. 10 It has now been revealed by the appearing of our Lord Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 11 Of this gospel I have been appointed a preacher, apostle and teacher, 12 and I am not ashamed, for I know in whom I have believed and remain convinced that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him until that day. 13 Hold fast to the truth which you have heard from me. Do this in faith and love which comes from Christ Jesus. 14 Keep the treasure which has been committed to you by the Holy Spirit which dwells in us.

15 You are aware that everyone in Asia has turned away from me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 The LORD grant mercy to the house of Onesophorus, for he often showed me mercy and was not ashamed of my chains. 17 When he was in Rome he eagerly looked me up. 18 May the LORD grant him mercy in that day. You know how well he ministered to me in Ephesus.

1 So, my son, be strong in the grace of Jesus Christ. 2 Entrust to faithful men the things you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, so that they will be able to teach others. 3 Be a good soldier of Jesus Christ as you suffer hardship with me. 4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life. 5 Also, a person competing as an athlete does not win the prize without following the rules. 6 The hard working farmer should be first in receiving his share of the crops. 7 Think about what I am saying, the LORD will give you understanding. 8 Remember Jesus Christ, descended from David, and was raised from the dead, according to my gospel. 9 I suffer hardship because of the gospel, even imprisonment as a criminal. But God's word cannot be imprisoned. 10 I endure these things for the sake of the chosen, so that they may obtain salvation in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory. 11 It is true to say that we die with Him and we will live with Him. 12 If we endure, we will also reign with him, but if we deny Him, He will deny us. 13 Though we be faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. 14 Remind them of these things and solemnly charge them not to argue about words. This is useless and leads to ruin.

15 Study how to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately teaching the word of truth. 16 Avoid empty worldly chatter, for it leads to more ungodliness. 17 This sort of talk spreads like gangrene. Among those who do this are Hymenaeus and Philetus. 18 These men have strayed from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already taken place, so that some have lost their faith. 19 In spite of this, God's foundation stands, having this seal: that the LORD knows who are His, and everyone who names the name of the LORD abstains from iniquity.

20 A large home is furnished with not just vessels of gold and silver, but also vessels of wood and pottery, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 So it is with those who cleanse themselves from these things. They will be vessels of honor, sanctified, useful to the Master for every good work. 22 Flee from youthful lusts. Pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace with those who call on the LORD with a pure heart. 23 Refuse foolish questions, for they only produce quarrels. 24 The LORD's servant must not be quarrelsome, but gentle with everyone, able to teach and patient when wronged. 25 Use gentleness when correcting wrongs so that if possible God will forgive the repentant and lead them to a knowledge of the truth. 26 When they come to their senses they will have escaped the tempter's snare and will no longer be under his power.

1 You need to know that in the last days times will be difficult. 2 Men will love themselves. They will be covetous, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, trucebreakers, false accusers, without self-control, brutal, despising what is good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. 5 They will have a form of godliness, but deny its power. Avoid such men. 6 For among these are some who enter into households and lead weak women into sins associated with various impulses, 7 always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth, 8 in the same way that Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses. These depraved men oppose the truth and rejected the faith. 9 Like Jannes and Jambres, these men's folly is obvious and they will make no spiritual progress. 10 But you have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, Iconium and Lystra. And the LORD has rescued me from each one of them! 12 In truth, all who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. 13 But the evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

14 You must continue in what you have learned and been convinced of, knowing of whom you learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

1 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and Jesus Christ, who is the judge of the living and the dead when He comes in His kingdom, 2 preach the word. Be ready in season and out of season. Reprove, rebuke and exhort with great patience and instruction. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but will instead gather around themselves those who teach what they want to hear. 4 They will turn from truth to fables. 5 But you must be sober in every way, enduring hardship, doing the work of an evangelist and fulfilling your ministry. 6 For I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. 8 There is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the LORD, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but to all those who love the LORD's appearing.

9 Make every effort to come to me soon. 10 Demas who loves this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke is with me now. Bring Mark with you. He will be a help to me. 12 I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus. 13 And when you come bring the cloak that I left at Troas with Carpus, and the books, especially the parchments.

14 Alexander the coppersmith did much harm to me. The LORD will repay him for his deeds. 15 Watch yourself with him, for he is greatly opposed to our teaching. 16 At my first defense everyone deserted me. May it not be counted against them. 17 But the LORD stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation of the gospel to the Gentiles might be fully accomplished. I was rescued from the lion's mouth. 18 The LORD will rescue me from every evil deed, and bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen. 19 Greet Priscilla and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. 20 Erastus remained at Corinth, and I left Trophimus sick at Miletus. 21 Make every effort to come before winter. Eubulus greets you, as does Pudens, Linus, Claudia and all the brethren. 22 The LORD be with your spirit. Grace be with you.
