The Purpose Of Proverbs
The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, 2 for attaining wisdom and discipline, for perceiving words of understanding, 3 to receive instruction in wise behavior, righteousness, justice and equity, 4 to give prudence to the naive, and to the youth knowledge and discretion.
"A wise man can be taught and will listen to wise counsel.
"He can understand a proverb and a riddle.

"The fear of the LORD is where knowledge begins, but fools despise instruction.
"My son, hear your father's instruction. And stand by what your mother taught you.
"This will serve you well and will be your adornment .

"My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to their suggestions.
"If they say, "Come with us to ambush the innocent without cause."
"We will take their lives,"
"and find all kinds of spoil."
"Throw in your lot with us, and we will all share one purse."
"My son, do not go with them."
"As they plan to shed blood they are headed for evil."
"One cannot set a net to trap the bird while he is watching."
"They are setting an ambushing for their own lives."
"This is what happens to those who gain by violence. They end up destroying themselves."

"Wisdom shouts in the street, and lifts her voice in the square."
"She utters her sayings at the entrance of the gates of the city."
"How long will you simple ones love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?"
"Turn at my reproof, and I will make my words known to you."
"I called with outstretched hand, but no one listened."
"You neglected my counsel and did not want my reproof."
"So now I will laugh at your calamity, and mock when what you dread comes upon you."
"Distress and anguish will come like a whirlwind in a storm."
"When this happens they will call to me but I will not answer. They will look for me but they will not find me."
"They hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD."
"They would not accept my counsel, and spurned all my reproof."
"So they shall eat of the fruit of their own ways and be satiated with their own devices."
"The waywardness of the simple will kill them, for fools are destroyed by their own complacency."
"But the one who listens to me shall live in security and dread no evil."
