4 Chapters - Written about AD 60 by Paul

Theme: Because Christ is supreme our lives must be Christ centered. We must not cling to our own ideas and try to blend them with Christianity. Christ is our hope and our true source of wisdom.

1-8_Greetings to the faithful brethren from Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ. We have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. This hope is constantly bearing fruit and increasing since the day you first heard and understood the grace of God.

__9-14_We always pray that you will be filled with a knowledge of God's will for you so that you may walk with Him. He has delivered us from darkness through His Son in Whom we have redemption and forgiveness of sins.

__15-23_Jesus is the image of the invisible God. By Him all things were created. He is the head of the church. He has reconciled you in order to present you to His Father as holy and blameless.

__24-29_By my preaching the mystery which was hidden from past generations has been made known to His saints, including the Gentiles.

1-5_I want all who have not personally seen Jesus' face to come to a knowledge of the salvation He has made available.

__6-15_You have been given the truth. Do not depart from it. In Christ the fullness of the deity dwells in bodily form. In Him you have been made complete. You were buried with Him in baptism and the same power that raised Him from the grave now raises you to newness of life as you place your faith in Him.

__16-23_Let no one act as your judge concerning what to eat or drink or what feast days to keep. Christ is to be the focus of your life. If you have died to the world and are alive in Christ you are then free from those rituals formerly used to point to Christ's sacrifice. We no longer need those things because we now have Christ.

1-11_If you have been raised up with Christ seek the things from above. You have died and your life is now hidden in Christ. As such, consider yourselves dead to the old evil ways that God will one day destroy. No longer do any evil thing. Put on the new self which is the image of your Creator.

__12-17_Now that you are chosen by God you should be different from your old ways. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. You are called to be one body. Be thankful. Let God's word dwell in you. Whatever you do, let it be done in the name of Jesus.

__18-25_Husbands and wives need to be committed to each other. Husbands need respect, wives need love and children are to obey their parents. This will help them to learn to obey God. Those with authority over others should not misuse that authority. Those who do wrong in this respect will receive consequences from God.

1-6_Pray for yourselves and then for the forwarding of the gospel. Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward unbelievers.

__7-16_Paul here mentions various people who are working with him, among them Onesimus, Mark, and Luke.

__17-18_Take heed that you fulfill the ministry you have received from the LORD. I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand.
