3 Chapters - Written about 620 BC by Joel, son Of Pethuel

Theme: Joel warns the people of Judah and people everywhere, of God's impending judgment because of their sins. He urges them to turn back to God. The people of Judah had become prosperous and complacent, taking God for granted. They had turned to sinful practices. Joel warns them of the certain results of this choice.

1-20_The word of the LORD came to Joel to address the elders and the inhabitants of the land.

An invading locust like nation will destroy the land. Put on sack cloth and weep. The day of the LORD is near. The beasts of the field pant for You for there are no pastures and the brooks have dried up.

1-11_Sound the alarm. Let everyone tremble. The day of the LORD is coming. Surely it is near. A great and mighty people spread destruction wherever they go. They are invincible. The day of the LORD is very awesome. Who can endure what is coming?

__12-17_Yet, even now, declares the LORD, return to Me with all your heart, for I am gracious and compassionate. I am slow to anger and I abound in loving kindness. Blow the trumpet in Zion. Consecrate a fast. Proclaim a solemn assembly. Let everyone without exception be sanctified.

__18-27_Then the LORD will be zealous for His land have pity on His people. He will remove this invading army from the north and He will satisfy your every need. Do not fear. The LORD will take care of you and your beasts. Your land will yield its full strength and you will know that I am in your midst. For I am the LORD your God.

__28-30_After this I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind. Your sons and your daughters will prophecy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions. I will even pour out My Spirit on your servants.

__31-32_The sun will be darkened, and the moon will be turned to blood before the great and awesome day of the LORD. Whoever calls on the name of the LORD will be delivered.

1-7_In the days when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem I will gather all the nations in the valley of Jehosaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them on behalf of My people. I am going to even the score between My people and the nations of the world.

__8-13_Let all the soldiers draw near. Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weak say I am a mighty man.

Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come tread on the grapes, for the wine press is full. The vats overflow, and their wickedness is great.

__14-17_Multitudes are in the valley of decision, for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. The sun and the moon grow dark, and the stars loose their brightness. The LORD in Zion roars and the heavens and the earth tremble. But the LORD is a refuge for His people.

__18-21_In that day the mountains will drip with sweet wine and the hills will flow with milk, and all the brooks of Judah will flow with water. A spring will flow out from the house of the LORD and Judah will be inhabited forever, for the LORD dwells in Zion.
