1-8_Listen, O my people, to the words of my mouth. I will speak a parable. We will tell our children of God's wondrous works. He appointed a law in Israel. He said that His law should be taught to the children. But their children were not like their fathers and were not faithful to God.

__9-20_Ephraim refused to walk in God's law, though they knew of the wonders He had wrought in Egypt. They benefited from the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. He gave them water from the rock and they drank their fill. Yet they continued to sin against Him.

__21-33_The LORD heard all that they said and His wrath was great because they did not believe in Him. He had given them the bread of angels. They had all they needed. He sent birds to them on the east wind. They ate until they were full. Some over ate and He caused them to die.

__34-39_After their death those remaining sought the LORD diligently. Though they saw all He had been doing for them, still their hearts were not steadfast toward Him. He forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them. Over and over He restrained His anger because He understood that they were but flesh.

__40-51_They rebelled against God so often. Again and again they tempted God and did not remember His power, how He had sent the plagues when the rivers of Egypt were turned to blood, sent swarms of flies, frogs, grasshoppers and locust. Finally He sent the hail and the lightening. Then He smote the firstborn in Egypt.

__52-61_He led them out of Egypt like sheep. The sea engulfed their enemies. He brought them to His holy land drove out the nations before them. After all of this they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God. They provoked Him with their high places and aroused His jealousy with their graven images.
