46-The Last Supper And The Communion Service - KJV

1. Jesus Was The Lamb Of God. The Lamb Was An Important Part Of The Passover.
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, _Behold_ the Lamb of God, which _taketh_ away the sin of the world.

2. The Account Of The Communion Service In The Four Gospels.
Matthew 26:26-30 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the _disciples_, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. [27] And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; [28] For this is my blood of the new _testament_, which is shed for many for the _remission_ of sins. [29] But I say unto you, I will not drink _henceforth_ of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my _Fathers_ _kingdom_. [30] And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of _Olives_.

Mark 14:22-26 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. [23] And he took the cup, and when he had given _thanks_, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it. [24] And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new _testament_, which is shed for many. [25] _Verily_ I say unto you, I will drink no more of the _fruit_ of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the _kingdom_ of God. [26] And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the _mount_ of _Olives_.

Luke 22:14-20 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. [15] And he said unto them, With desire I have _desired_ to eat this _passover_ with you before I suffer: [16] For I say unto you, I will not any more eat _thereof_, until it be _fulfilled_ in the kingdom of God. [17] And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among _yourselves_: [18] For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. [19] And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in _remembrance_ of me. [20] _Likewise_ also the cup after _supper_, saying, This cup is the new _testament_ in my blood, which is shed for you.

John 13:1-17 Now before the feast of the _passover_, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should _depart_ out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. [2] And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simons son, to betray him; [3] Jesus _knowing_ that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; [4] He _riseth_ from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded _himself_. [5] After that he _poureth_ water into a bason, and began to wash the _disciples_ feet, and to wipe them with the towel _wherewith_ he was girded. [6] Then _cometh_ he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? [7] Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know _hereafter_. [8] Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt _never_ wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. [9] Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. [10] Jesus saith to him, He that is washed _needeth_ not save to wash his feet, but is clean _every_ whit: and ye are clean, but not all. [11] For he knew who should betray him; _therefore_ said he, Ye are not all clean. [12] So after he had washed _their_ feet, and had _taken_ his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? [13] Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. [14] If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also _ought_ to wash one anothers feet. [15] For I have given you an _example_, that ye should do as I have done to you. [16] Verily, verily, I say unto you, The _servant_ is not greater than his lord; _neither_ he that is sent greater than he that sent him. [17] If ye know _these_ things, _happy_ are ye if ye do them.

3. Paul's Account Of The Communion Service And Its Purpose.
1 Corinthians 11:23-29 For I have _received_ of the Lord that which also I _delivered_ unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: [24] And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. [25] After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, _saying_, This cup is the new _testament_ in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. [26] For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lords death till he come. [27] _Wherefore_ _whosoever_ shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be _guilty_ of the body and blood of the Lord. [28] But let a man _examine_ himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. [29] For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh _damnation_ to himself, not _discerning_ the Lords body.

1 Corinthians 10:16-17 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we _break_, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? [17] For we _being_ many are one bread, and one body: for we are all _partakers_ of that one bread.

1 Corinthians 10:20-21 But I say, that the things which the _Gentiles_ sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have _fellowship_ with devils. [21] Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be _partakers_ of the Lords table, and of the table of devils.

4. What Is The New Covenant?
Hebrews 8:8-10 For _finding_ fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: [9] Not according to the covenant that I made with their _fathers_ in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they _continued_ not in my covenant, and I _regarded_ them not, saith the Lord. [10] For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their _hearts_: and I will be to them a God, and they _shall_ be to me a _people_:

Hebrews 8:13 In that he saith, A new _covenant_, he hath made the first old. Now that which _decayeth_ and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Hebrews 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of _sprinkling_, that _speaketh_ better things that that of Abel.

Participating in the communion service may be most meaningful after a person is baptized into the body of Christ and sees the need for a renewal of his or her relationship with Jesus and members of the church.
