39-The Holy Spirit - NIV

1. Jesus Declares That the Holy Spirit Is a Divine Being by Calling the Spirit "Him", Not "It".".
John 16:7 But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. _Unless_ I go away, the _Counselor_ will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

2. The Holy Spirit Convicts Us of Sin.
John 16:8 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and _righteousness_ and _judgment_:

3. Jesus Speaks of the Holy Spirit As Part of the Godhead.
Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, _baptizing_ them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] and teaching them to obey _everything_ I have _commanded_ you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

4. The Holy Spirit Can Be Grieved.
Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were _sealed_ for the day of _redemption_.

5. The Holy Spirit "Strives" with Us, Leading Us to Do Right.
Genesis 6:3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a _hundred_ and _twenty_ years."

6. The Holy Spirit Intercedes for Us.
Romans 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself _intercedes_ for us with groans that words cannot _express_.

7. The Holy Spirit Has a Mind.
Romans 8:27 And he who _searches_ our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in _accordance_ with God's will.

8. The Holy Spirit Bears Witness That We Are Children of God.
Romans 8:16 The Spirit himself _testifies_ with our spirit that we are God's _children_.

9. The Holy Spirit Produces His Fruits in Our Lives.
Galatians 5:22-26 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] _gentleness_ and self-control. Against such things there is no law. [24] Those who belong to Christ Jesus have _crucified_ the sinful nature with its passions and desires. [25] Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. [26] Let us not become _conceited_, _provoking_ and envying each other.

10. The Holy Spirit Works A Transformation Of Character, Giving Us A New Heart.
Ezekiel 36:26-27 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. [27] And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to _follow_ my _decrees_ and be _careful_ to keep my laws.

Hebrews 8:10 This is the _covenant_ I will make with the house of Israel after that time, _declares_ the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

11. The Spirit Participated with the Father and the Son in Creation and He Participates in Re-Creating Us, Too.
Genesis 1:2 Now the earth was formless and empty, _darkness_ was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was _hovering_ over the waters.

12. We May Be Assured That The Power Of The Holy Spirit Will Change His Faithful People By Dwelling In Them.
Romans 8:11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your _mortal_ _bodies_ through his Spirit, who lives in you.

13. The Holy Spirit Guides Us into All Truth.
John 16:13-14 But when he, the _Spirit_ of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. [14] He will bring glory to me by _taking_ from what is mine and _making_ it known to you.

14. The Holy Spirit Teaches Us.
John 14:26 But the _Counselor_, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of _everything_ I have said to you.

15. To Fully Reject the Convicting, Converting, Instructing Power of the Holy Spirit Is to Everlastingly Commit the Unpardonable Sin.
Matthew 12:31-32 And so I tell you, _every_ sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. [32] Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, _either_ in this age or in the age to _come_.

16. As We Allow the Holy Spirit to Lead Us, We Become Sons and Daughters of God.
Romans 8:14 Because those who are led by the _Spirit_ of God are sons of God.
