38-Christian Standards - RSV

1. We Are to Represent Christ to the World.
2 Corinthians 5:20 So we are _ambassadors_ for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We beseech you on behalf of Christ, be _reconciled_ to God.

2. Lift up a Standard for the People.
Isaiah 62:10 Go through, go through the gates, prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the _highway_, clear it of stones, lift up an ensign over the _peoples_.

3. Love Not the World for It Will Pass Away.
1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the _things_ in the world. If any one loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. [16] For all that is in the world, the lust of the _flesh_ and the lust of the eyes and the _pride_ of life, is not of the Father but is of the world. [17] And the world _passes_ away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God _abides_ for ever.

4. Do Not Be Conformed to the World. Instead, Be Made New by Jesus.
Romans 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living _sacrifice_, holy and acceptable to God, which is your _spiritual_ worship. [2] Do not be _conformed_ to this world but be _transformed_ by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

5. What Should Be Upper Most in Our Minds?
Philippians 4:7-8 And the peace of God, which passes all _understanding_, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. [8] Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is _honorable_, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any _excellence_, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

6. How Can We Change?
2 Corinthians 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, _beholding_ the glory of the Lord, are being changed into his _likeness_ from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

7. God Is Not Pleased When We Love Violence.
Psalms 11:5 The LORD tests the _righteous_ and the wicked, and his soul hates him that loves _violence_.

8. Turn Away From Vanity.
Psalms 119:37 Turn my eyes from _looking_ at _vanities_; and give me life in thy ways.

9. Seek to Have the Same Way of Thinking You See in Jesus.
Philippians 2:5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in _Christ_ _Jesus_,

10. We Should Dress Modestly and Refrain From Ornamentation and Excessive Cost and Display in the Things We Wear.
1 Timothy 2:9-10 Also that women should adorn _themselves_ modestly and sensibly in seemly apparel, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly attire [10] but by good deeds, as befits women who profess _religion_.

11. True Beauty Is Inside Our Hearts.
1 Peter 3:2-5 When they see your reverent and chaste behavior. [3] Let not yours be the outward adorning with braiding of hair, _decoration_ of gold, and wearing of fine clothing, [4] but let it be the hidden person of the heart with the _imperishable_ jewel of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious. [5] So once the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn _themselves_ and were _submissive_ to their husbands,

12. Jacob Leads a Revival and Commands His Household to Get Rid of Their Idols and Jewelry.
Genesis 35:2-4 So Jacob said to his _household_ and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods that are among you, and purify yourselves, and change your _garments_; [3] then let us arise and go up to Bethel, that I may make there an altar to the God who _answered_ me in the day of my _distress_ and has been with me _wherever_ I have gone." [4] So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods that they had, and the rings that were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was near _Shechem_.

13. As the Children of Israel Enter the Promise Land They Remove Their Jewelry.
Exodus 33:3-6 Go up to a land _flowing_ with milk and honey; but I will not go up among you, lest I consume you in the way, for you are a stiff-necked people." [4] When the people heard these evil _tidings_, they _mourned_; and no man put on his ornaments. [5] For the LORD had said to Moses, "Say to the people of Israel, 'You are a stiff-necked people; if for a single moment I _should_ go up among you, I would consume you. So now put off your ornaments from you, that I may know what to do with you.'" [6] Therefore the people of Israel _stripped_ _themselves_ of their ornaments, from Mount Horeb _onward_.

14. God Reveals His Displeasure When People Artificially Adorn Themselves and Lack Character.
Isaiah 3:16-24 The LORD said: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty and walk with _outstretched_ necks, glancing wantonly with their eyes, mincing along as they go, tinkling with their feet; [17] the Lord will smite with a scab the heads of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will lay bare their secret parts. [18] In that day the Lord will take away the finery of the anklets, the _headbands_, and the _crescents_; [19] the pendants, the _bracelets_, and the scarfs; [20] the _headdresses_, the armlets, the sashes, the perfume boxes, and the amulets; [21] the signet rings and nose rings; [22] the festal robes, the mantles, the cloaks, and the _handbags_; [23] the garments of gauze, the linen garments, the turbans, and the veils. [24] Instead of perfume there will be _rottenness_; and instead of a girdle, a rope; and instead of well-set hair, _baldness_; and instead of a rich robe, a girding of _sackcloth_; instead of beauty, shame.

15. Jewelry Is Associated with Idolatry and Forgetting God.
Hosea 2:13 And I will punish her for the feast days of the Ba'als when she burned incense to them and decked _herself_ with her ring and _jewelry_, and went after her lovers, and forgot me, says the LORD.

16. The False Church Is Pictured by God As Being Decked Out with Jewels. She Has Left Her True Lover, Jesus Christ.
Revelation 17:1-5 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, "Come, I will show you the _judgment_ of the great harlot who is seated upon many waters, [2] with whom the kings of the earth have _committed_ fornication, and with the wine of whose fornication the _dwellers_ on earth have become drunk." [3] And he carried me away in the Spirit into a _wilderness_, and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of _blasphemous_ names, and it had seven heads and ten horns. [4] The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and _bedecked_ with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the _impurities_ of her fornication; [5] and on her _forehead_ was written a name of mystery: "Babylon the great, mother of harlots and of _earth's_ abominations."

17. Jesus Gives Us True Beauty When We Wear His Robe of Righteousness. What Is More Beautiful Than Happiness Within?
Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall exult in my God; for he has clothed me with the _garments_ of _salvation_, he has covered me with the robe of _righteousness_, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

18. Jesus Said, "I Do Always Those Things Which Please Him." by God's Grace, We Should Seek to Be Like Jesus.
John 8:29 And he who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I _always_ do what is _pleasing_ to him."

19. Happiness Comes From Knowing and Doing God's Will.
John 13:17 If you know these _things_, _blessed_ are you if you do them.

20. I Delight to Do Thy Will, My God.
Psalms 40:8 I delight to do thy _will_, O my God; thy law is within my _heart_."
