37-Tithe and Christian Stewardship - RSV

1. God Grants to Each the Ability to Get Wealth.
Deuteronomy 8:18 You shall _remember_ the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth; that he may confirm his _covenant_ which he swore to your fathers, as at this day.

2. The Earth Is the Lord's.
Psalms 24:1 A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD's and the _fulness_ thereof, the world and those who dwell _therein_;

3. The Silver and Gold Belong to God.
Haggai 2:8 The _silver_ is mine, and the gold is mine, says the LORD of _hosts_.

4. Will a Man Rob God? How?
Malachi 3:8-11 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, 'How are we robbing thee?' In your tithes and offerings. [9] You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me; the whole nation of you. [10] Bring the full tithes into the _storehouse_, that there may be food in my house; and _thereby_ put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the _windows_ of heaven for you and pour down for you an _overflowing_ blessing. [11] I will rebuke the _devourer_ for you, so that it will not _destroy_ the _fruits_ of your soil; and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the LORD of hosts.

5. If We Honor God First, He Will Pour Out Heavens Richest Blessing.
Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the LORD with your _substance_ and with the first fruits of all your produce; [10] then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be _bursting_ with wine.

6. Seek God's Kingdom First, and You Will Not Lack Anything.
Matthew 6:33 But seek first his _kingdom_ and his _righteousness_, and all these things shall be yours as well.

7. Abraham Paid Tithe to Melchizedek Who Was a Type of Jesus.
Genesis 14:20 And blessed be God Most High, who has _delivered_ your enemies into your hand!" And Abram gave him a tenth of _everything_.

8. A Tithe Equals a Tenth.
Leviticus 27:32 And all the tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth _animal_ of all that pass under the _herdsman's_ staff, shall be holy to the LORD.

9. Jesus Said We Ought to Pay Tithe But This Does Not Take the Place of Mercy, Justice, and Compassion.
Matthew 23:23 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, _hypocrites_! for you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, justice and mercy and faith; these you ought to have done, without _neglecting_ the others.

10. God Loves a Cheerful Giver.
2 Corinthians 9:7 Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not _reluctantly_ or under _compulsion_, for God loves a cheerful giver.

11. They Which Preach the Gospel Should Live of the Gospel.
1 Corinthians 9:13-14 Do you not know that those who are employed in the temple service get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in the _sacrificial_ _offerings_? [14] In the same way, the Lord _commanded_ that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.

12. The Laborer Is Worthy of His Hire.
1 Timothy 5:18 For the _scripture_ says, "You shall not muzzle an ox when it is _treading_ out the grain," and, "The laborer deserves his wages."

13. The Heart That Freely Gives Will Be Constantly Blessed with More by Our Lord.
Proverbs 11:24-25 One man gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another _withholds_ what he should give, and only suffers want. [25] A liberal man will be _enriched_, and one who waters will himself be watered.

14. We Are to Pay God a True Tithe.
Deuteronomy 14:22 "You shall tithe all the yield of your seed, which comes _forth_ from the _field_ year by year.

15. It Makes You Happy When You Do What the Lord Asks.
John 13:17 If you know these _things_, _blessed_ are you if you do them.
