37-Tithe and Christian Stewardship - NIV

1. God Grants to Each the Ability to Get Wealth.
Deuteronomy 8:18 But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his _covenant_, which he swore to your _forefathers_, as it is today.

2. The Earth Is the Lord's.
Psalms 24:1 The earth is the _LORD's_, and _everything_ in it, the world, and all who live in it;

3. The Silver and Gold Belong to God.
Haggai 2:8 'The silver is mine and the gold is mine,' _declares_ the LORD _Almighty_.

4. Will a Man Rob God? How?
Malachi 3:8-11 "Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' "In tithes and offerings. [9] You are under a curse--the whole nation of you--because you are _robbing_ me. [10] Bring the whole tithe into the _storehouse_, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the _floodgates_ of heaven and pour out so much _blessing_ that you will not have room enough for it. [11] I will _prevent_ pests from _devouring_ your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit," says the LORD Almighty.

5. If We Honor God First, He Will Pour Out Heavens Richest Blessing.
Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the _firstfruits_ of all your crops; [10] then your barns will be _filled_ to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

6. Seek God's Kingdom First, and You Will Not Lack Anything.
Matthew 6:33 But seek first his _kingdom_ and his _righteousness_, and all these things will be given to you as well.

7. Abraham Paid Tithe to Melchizedek Who Was a Type of Jesus.
Genesis 14:20 And blessed be God Most High, who _delivered_ your enemies into your hand." Then Abram gave him a tenth of _everything_.

8. A Tithe Equals a Tenth.
Leviticus 27:32 The entire tithe of the herd and flock--every tenth animal that _passes_ under the _shepherd's_ rod--will be holy to the LORD.

9. Jesus Said We Ought to Pay Tithe But This Does Not Take the Place of Mercy, Justice, and Compassion.
Matthew 23:23 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you _hypocrites_! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy and _faithfulness_. You should have practiced the latter, without _neglecting_ the former.

10. God Loves a Cheerful Giver.
2 Corinthians 9:7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not _reluctantly_ or under _compulsion_, for God loves a cheerful giver.

11. They Which Preach the Gospel Should Live of the Gospel.
1 Corinthians 9:13-14 Don't you know that those who work in the temple get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in what is _offered_ on the altar? [14] In the same way, the Lord has _commanded_ that those who preach the gospel should _receive_ their living from the gospel.

12. The Laborer Is Worthy of His Hire.
1 Timothy 5:18 For the _Scripture_ says, "Do not muzzle the ox while it is _treading_ out the grain," and "The worker deserves his wages."

13. The Heart That Freely Gives Will Be Constantly Blessed with More by Our Lord.
Proverbs 11:24-25 One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. [25] A generous man will prosper; he who _refreshes_ others will himself be _refreshed_.

14. We Are to Pay God a True Tithe.
Deuteronomy 14:22 Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your _fields_ _produce_ each year.

15. It Makes You Happy When You Do What the Lord Asks.
John 13:17 Now that you know these _things_, you will be _blessed_ if you do them.
