35-The Gift of Prophecy - KJV

1. God Reveals Himself Through His Prophets.
Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he _revealeth_ his secret unto his servants the _prophets_.

2. Visions and Dreams Are One of the Ways God Communicates His Will.
Numbers 12:6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a _prophet_ among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a _vision_, and will speak unto him in a dream.

3. The Dragon Makes War with Those Who Keep God's Commandments and Have the Testimony of Jesus.
Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the _commandments_ of God, and have the _testimony_ of Jesus Christ.

4. The Testimony of Jesus Is the Gift of Prophecy.
Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy _fellowservant_, and of thy _brethren_ that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of _prophecy_.

5. The Angel of Prophecy That Appeared to John Also Appears
in the Last Days of Earth's History.
Revelation 22:6 And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy _prophets_ sent his angel to shew unto his _servants_ the things which must shortly be done.

Revelation 22:9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy _fellowservant_, and of thy brethren the _prophets_, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.

6. One of Jesus' Gifts Is the Gift of Prophecy. This Gift Is to Remain in the Church Until the End.
Ephesians 4:8 _Wherefore_ he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led _captivity_ captive, and gave gifts unto men.

Ephesians 4:11-15 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, _evangelists_; and some, pastors and teachers; [12] For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: [13] Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the _knowledge_ of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: [14] That we _henceforth_ be no more _children_, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of _doctrine_, by the sleight of men, and cunning _craftiness_, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; [15] But _speaking_ the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

7. The Church Waiting for Jesus' Coming Will Have All of the Gifts.
1 Corinthians 1:4-7 I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; [5] That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all _utterance_, and in all _knowledge_; [6] Even as the _testimony_ of Christ was _confirmed_ in you: [7] So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

8. The Bible Invites Us to "Test the Spirits." Each Prophetic Manifestation Must Meet the Bible Tests of a True Prophet.
1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: _because_ many false _prophets_ are gone out into the world.

Matthew 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am _Christ_; and shall _deceive_ many.

Matthew 24:11 And many false _prophets_ shall rise, and shall _deceive_ many.

Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; _insomuch_ that, if it were _possible_, they shall deceive the very elect.

9. A Test of a True Prophet Is That True Prophets Always Lead to Obedience According to God's Will.
Deuteronomy 13:1-4 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, [2] And the sign or the wonder come to pass, _whereof_ he spake unto thee, _saying_, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; [3] Thou shalt not _hearken_ unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God _proveth_ you, to know _whether_ ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. [4] Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his _commandments_, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and _cleave_ unto him.

10. The prophesies of a True Prophet of God Always Come True, Unless Given As Conditional prophesies.
Jeremiah 28:8-9 The prophets that have been before me and before thee of old _prophesied_ both against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of _pestilence_. [9] The prophet which _prophesieth_ of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the LORD hath truly sent him.

11. If prophesies Disagree with God's Previously Revealed Will in the Law and the Testimony Then Do Not Believe Them.
Isaiah 8:19-20 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have _familiar_ spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? [20] To the law and to the _testimony_: if they speak not _according_ to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

12. True Prophets Place Emphasis on the Centrality of Jesus Christ.
1 John 4:1-3 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits _whether_ they are of God: because many false _prophets_ are gone out into the world. [2] Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: [3] And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of _antichrist_, _whereof_ ye have heard that it should come; and even now _already_ is it in the world.

13. In Vision, a True Prophet Does Not Breathe.
Daniel 10:17 For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, _straightway_ there remained no _strength_ in me, neither is there breath left in me.

14. The Fruits of True Prophet's Lives Reveal Their Divine Credentials.
Matthew 7:15-16 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheeps clothing, but inwardly they are _ravening_ wolves. [16] Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of _thistles_?

15. Believe His Prophets and You Will Prosper.
2 Chronicles 20:20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the _wilderness_ of Tekoa: and as they went forth, _Jehoshaphat_ stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be _established_; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

16. God Places True Prophets in His Church to Guide It in Time of Crises.
1 Corinthians 12:27-28 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. [28] And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, _governments_, _diversities_ of tongues.

17. A Prophet in the Last Days of Earth's History.
Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the _commandments_ of God, and have the _testimony_ of Jesus Christ.
