Jesus Promised to Prepare a Place for Us.
The "bottomless pit, " or abyss, comes from the Greek word abussos and is the same word in the Hebrew Old Testament used for "without form and void. In Genesis 1:2, when God spoke the world into existence, it was without form and void, a darkened, desolate abyss of nothingness until God immediately separated the dry land, and then created a new world full of life.
Isaiah 66:22 For as the new _heavens_ and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain _before_ me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
2 Peter 3:13 _Nevertheless_ we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth _righteousness_.
Revelation 21:1-5 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. [2] And I John saw the holy city, new _Jerusalem_, coming down from God out of heaven, _prepared_ as a bride adorned for her _husband_. [3] And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the _tabernacle_ of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God _himself_ shall be with them, and be their God. [4] And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither _sorrow_, nor _crying_, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. [5] And he that sat upon the _throne_ said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and _faithful_.
