1. God Wants Us to Prosper and Be in Good Health.
3 John 1:2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good _health_ and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is _getting_ along well.

2. Sanctification Includes the Body, Mind, and Emotions As Well As Spiritual Faculties.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 May God himself, the God of peace, _sanctify_ you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept _blameless_ at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

3. Present Your Body As a Living Sacrifice.
Romans 12:1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living _sacrifices_, holy and pleasing to God--this is your _spiritual_ act of worship. [2] Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be _transformed_ by the _renewing_ of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

4. Your Body Is the Temple of God.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have _received_ from God? You are not your own; [20] you were bought at a price. _Therefore_ honor God with your body.

5. Whatever You Eat Or Drink, Do All to the Glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31 So _whether_ you eat or drink or _whatever_ you do, do it all for the glory of God.

6. Wine Is a Mocker and Strong Drink Is a Raging.
Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker and beer a _brawler_; _whoever_ is led astray by them is not wise.

7. Wine Causes All Kinds of Problems.
Proverbs 23:29-32 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has _complaints_? Who has _needless_ bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? [30] Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. [31] Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it _sparkles_ in the cup, when it goes down _smoothly_! [32] In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.

8. Woe to Those Intoxicated with Wine.
Isaiah 5:11 Woe to those who rise early in the _morning_ to run after their drinks, who stay up late at night till they are _inflamed_ with wine.

9. Excessive Wine Leads to Violence.
Proverbs 4:17 They eat the bread of _wickedness_ and drink the wine of _violence_.

10. Wine Perverts the Judgment of Kings.
Proverbs 31:4-5 "It is not for kings, O Lemuel-- not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, [5] lest they drink and forget what the law decrees, and _deprive_ all the _oppressed_ of their rights.

11. Since We Are Kings and Priests Unto God, We Need Clear Minds.
Revelation 5:10 You have made them to be a _kingdom_ and _priests_ to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth."

12. God's Original Diet Was a Vegetarian Diet.
Genesis 1:29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has _fruit_ with seed in it. They will be _yours_ for food.

13. Noah Understood the Difference Between Clean and Unclean Animals.
after the Flood God Gave Permission to Eat Clean Animals.

Genesis 7:2 Take with you seven of every kind of _clean_ animal, a male and its mate, and two of every kind of un_clean_ animal, a male and its mate,

14. Clean Animals Must Have a Split, Or Divided Hoof and Chew Their Cud. Unclean Animals Are Those Like the Pig That Does Not Have Both Features Just Mentioned.
Leviticus 11:1-8 The LORD said to _Moses_ and Aaron, [2] "Say to the Israelites: 'Of all the animals that live on land, these are the ones you may eat: [3] You may eat any animal that has a split hoof completely divided and that chews the cud. [4] " 'There are some that only chew the cud or only have a split hoof, but you must not eat them. The _camel_, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is _ceremonially_ unclean for you. [5] The _coney_, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is unclean for you. [6] The _rabbit_, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is unclean for you. [7] And the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divided, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you. [8] You must not eat their _meat_ or _touch_ their _carcasses_; _they_ are unclean for you.

15. Clean Sea Animals Must Have Both Fins and Scales.
Leviticus 11:9-12 " 'Of all the creatures living in the water of the seas and the streams, you may eat any that have fins and scales. [10] But all creatures in the seas or streams that do not have fins and scales--whether among all the _swarming_ _things_ or among all the other living creatures in the water--you are to detest. [11] And _since_ you are to detest them, you must not eat their meat and you must detest their _carcasses_. [12] _Anything_ living in the water that does not have fins and scales is to be _detestable_ to you.

16. Those Who Rebel Against God's Dietary Standards Will Not Be in the Kingdom.
Isaiah 66:15-17 See, the LORD is coming with fire, and his chariots are like a _whirlwind_; he will bring down his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. [16] For with fire and with his sword the LORD will execute judgment upon all men, and many will be those slain by the LORD. [17] "Those who _consecrate_ and purify themselves to go into the gardens, _following_ the one in the midst of those who eat the flesh of pigs and rats and other abominable things--they will meet their end _together_," _declares_ the LORD.

17. God Links Eating Unclean Foods to Heathen Idolatry.
Isaiah 65:1-5 "I _revealed_ myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. To a nation that did not call on my name, I said, 'Here am I, here am I.' [2] All day long I have held out my hands to an _obstinate_ people, who walk in ways not good, _pursuing_ their own imaginations-- [3] a people who _continually_ provoke me to my very face, offering _sacrifices_ in _gardens_ and burning incense on altars of brick; [4] who sit among the graves and spend their nights keeping secret vigil; who eat the flesh of pigs, and whose pots hold broth of _unclean_ meat; [5] who say, 'Keep away; don't come near me, for I am too sacred for you!' Such people are smoke in my _nostrils_, a fire that keeps burning all day.

18. Peter Had a Vision of a Sheet with All Kinds of Unclean Animals Which God Told Him to Eat.
Acts 10:9-16 About noon the _following_ day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. [10] He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being _prepared_, he fell into a trance. [11] He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. [12] It _contained_ all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as _reptiles_ of the earth and birds of the air. [13] Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat." [14] "Surely not, Lord!" Peter _replied_. "I have never eaten anything impure or _unclean_." [15] The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean." [16] This _happened_ three times, and _immediately_ the sheet was taken back to heaven.

19. Peter Later Understands That the Vision Does Not Apply to Food But to the Jewish Practice of Calling Gentiles Unclean. God Is Breaking Down Racial Barriers.
Acts 10:28 He said to them: "You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to _associate_ with a Gentile or visit him. But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or _unclean_.

20. Jesus Provides Spiritual Strength to Overcome Physical Habits.
Philippians 4:13 I can do _everything_ through him who gives me _strength_.

21. Jesus Was Tempted Like We Are. He Fasted 40 Days and Overcame So That We, Too, May Receive His Power to Overcome.
Hebrews 4:15-16 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to _sympathize_ with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. [16] Let us then _approach_ the throne of grace with _confidence_, so that we may _receive_ mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
