21-Sabbath Keeping - NAS

1. God Grants a Special Blessing to Those Who Keep the Sabbath.
Isaiah 56:2 "How blessed is the man who does this, And the son of man who takes hold of it; Who keeps from _profaning_ the _sabbath_, And keeps his hand from doing any evil."

2. God Offers Blessing to Those Obedient to His Commandments.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 "Now it shall be, if you _diligently_ obey the LORD your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. [2] "All these _blessings_ will come upon you and _overtake_ you if you obey the LORD your God:

Deuteronomy 28:15 "But it shall come about, if you do not obey the LORD your God, to observe to do all His _commandments_ and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses will come upon you and _overtake_ you:

3. The Sabbath Is a Sanctified Day Set Apart for Rest.
Exodus 20:8-11 "_Remember_ the sabbath day, to keep it holy. [9] "Six days you shall labor and do all your work, [10] but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your _daughter_, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your _sojourner_ who stays with you. [11] "For in six days the LORD made the _heavens_ and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; _therefore_ the LORD _blessed_ the sabbath day and made it holy.

4. The Sabbath Is Called a Holy Convocation, Or Gathering, of God's People
it Is a Special Designated Day of Worship.

Leviticus 23:3 'For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a sabbath of complete rest, a holy _convocation_. You shall not do any work; it is a sabbath to the LORD in all your _dwellings_.

5. Jesus Kept the Sabbath.
Luke 4:16 And He came to _Nazareth_, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the _synagogue_ on the Sabbath, and stood up to read.

6. Paul Kept the Sabbath.
Acts 18:4 And he was _reasoning_ in the _synagogue_ every Sabbath and trying to persuade Jews and Greeks.

7. Sabbath Begins at Sunset Friday Evening and End at Sunset Saturday Evening.
Leviticus 23:32 "It is to be a sabbath of complete rest to you, and you shall _humble_ your souls; on the ninth of the _month_ at evening, from evening until evening you shall keep your sabbath."

8. The Sabbath Is Not a Day for Secular Work.
Exodus 20:8-10 "_Remember_ the sabbath day, to keep it holy. [9] "Six days you shall labor and do all your work, [10] but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your _daughter_, your male or your female _servant_ or your cattle or your _sojourner_ who stays with you.

9. The Sabbath Is a Day to Delight Oneself in the Lord. Sports, Secular Games, Or Entertainment Are Not in Harmony with the Holiness of the Sabbath.
Isaiah 58:13-14 "If because of the sabbath, you turn your foot From doing your own pleasure on My holy day, And call the sabbath a delight, the holy day of the LORD honorable, And honor it, _desisting_ from your own ways, From _seeking_ your own pleasure And _speaking_ your own word, [14] Then you will take delight in the LORD, And I will make you ride on the _heights_ of the earth; And I will feed you with the _heritage_ of Jacob your father, For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."

10. The Sabbath Is Defiled When We Buy, Sell, Or Trivialize the Sabbath with Ordinary Worldly Activities.
Nehemiah 13:15-22 In those days I saw in Judah some who were _treading_ wine presses on the sabbath, and _bringing_ in sacks of grain and loading them on donkeys, as well as wine, grapes, figs and all kinds of loads, and they brought them into Jerusalem on the sabbath day. So I admonished them on the day they sold food. [16] Also men of Tyre were living there who imported fish and all kinds of merchandise, and sold them to the sons of Judah on the sabbath, even in Jerusalem. [17] Then I _reprimanded_ the nobles of Judah and said to them, "What is this evil thing you are doing, by profaning the sabbath day? [18] "Did not your fathers do the same, so that our God brought on us and on this city all this trouble? Yet you are adding to the wrath on Israel by profaning the sabbath." [19] It came about that just as it grew dark at the gates of Jerusalem before the sabbath, I commanded that the doors should be shut and that they should not open them until after the sabbath. Then I _stationed_ some of my _servants_ at the gates so that no load would enter on the sabbath day. [20] Once or twice the traders and _merchants_ of every kind of merchandise spent the night _outside_ Jerusalem. [21] Then I warned them and said to them, "Why do you spend the night in front of the wall? If you do so again, I will use force _against_ you." From that time on they did not come on the sabbath. [22] And I commanded the _Levites_ that they should purify _themselves_ and come as _gatekeepers_ to _sanctify_ the sabbath day. For this also _remember_ me, O my God, and have _compassion_ on me _according_ to the _greatness_ of Your _lovingkindness_.

11. Jesus Did Good on the Sabbath.
Matthew 12:11-13 And He said to them, "What man is there among you who has a sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it and lift it out? [12] "How much more _valuable_ then is a man than a sheep! So then, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath." [13] Then He said to the man, "_Stretch_ out your hand!" He _stretched_ it out, and it was _restored_ to _normal_, like the other.

12. Jesus Provided for the Physical Needs of His Disciples on the Sabbath.
Mark 2:23-28 And it _happened_ that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His _disciples_ began to make their way along while _picking_ the heads of grain. [24] The _Pharisees_ were saying to Him, "Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?" [25] And He said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his _companions_ became hungry; [26] how he _entered_ the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the _consecrated_ bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the _priests_, and he also gave it to those who were with him?" [27] Jesus said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. [28] "So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."

13. God Rebuked Those Who Tried to Gather Manna on Sabbath.
Exodus 16:26-30 "Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the sabbath, there will be none." [27] It came about on the seventh day that some of the people went out to gather, but they found none. [28] Then the LORD said to Moses, "How long do you _refuse_ to keep My _commandments_ and My instructions? [29] "See, the LORD has given you the sabbath; _therefore_ He gives you bread for two days on the sixth day. _Remain_ _every_ man in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day." [30] So the people _rested_ on the seventh day.

14. The Divine Invitation Is to Find Rest in Jesus.
Matthew 11:28-30 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. [29] "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am _gentle_ and _humble_ in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. [30] "For My yoke is easy and My _burden_ is light."
