21-Sabbath Keeping - KJV

1. God Grants a Special Blessing to Those Who Keep the Sabbath.
Isaiah 56:2 Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the _sabbath_ from _polluting_ it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.

2. God Offers Blessing to Those Obedient to His Commandments.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken _diligently_ unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all _nations_ of the earth: [2] And all these _blessings_ shall come on thee, and _overtake_ thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

Deuteronomy 28:15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to _observe_ to do all his commandments and his _statutes_ which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and _overtake_ thee:

3. The Sabbath Is a Sanctified Day Set Apart for Rest.
Exodus 20:8-11 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. [9] Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: [10] But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy _daughter_, thy _manservant_, nor thy _maidservant_, nor thy cattle, nor thy _stranger_ that is within thy gates: [11] For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: _wherefore_ the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and _hallowed_ it.

4. The Sabbath Is Called a Holy Convocation, Or Gathering, of God's People
it Is a Special Designated Day of Worship.

Leviticus 23:3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy _convocation_; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your _dwellings_.

5. Jesus Kept the Sabbath.
Luke 4:16 And he came to _Nazareth_, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the _synagogue_ on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

6. Paul Kept the Sabbath.
Acts 18:4 And he reasoned in the _synagogue_ every sabbath, and _persuaded_ the Jews and the Greeks.

7. Sabbath Begins at Sunset Friday Evening and End at Sunset Saturday Evening.
Leviticus 23:32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall _afflict_ your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye _celebrate_ your sabbath.

8. The Sabbath Is Not a Day for Secular Work.
Exodus 20:8-10 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. [9] Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: [10] But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy _daughter_, thy _manservant_, nor thy _maidservant_, nor thy cattle, nor thy _stranger_ that is within thy gates:

9. The Sabbath Is a Day to Delight Oneself in the Lord. Sports, Secular Games, Or Entertainment Are Not in Harmony with the Holiness of the Sabbath.
Isaiah 58:13-14 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor _finding_ thine own pleasure, nor _speaking_ thine own words: [14] Then shalt thou delight _thyself_ in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the _heritage_ of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath _spoken_ it.

10. The Sabbath Is Defiled When We Buy, Sell, Or Trivialize the Sabbath with Ordinary Worldly Activities.
Nehemiah 13:15-22 In those days saw I in Judah some _treading_ wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold _victuals_. [16] There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the _children_ of Judah, and in Jerusalem. [17] Then I _contended_ with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day? [18] Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by _profaning_ the sabbath. [19] And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and _charged_ that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my _servants_ set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day. [20] So the _merchants_ and _sellers_ of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice. [21] Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath. [22] And I commanded the _Levites_ that they should _cleanse_ _themselves_, and that they should come and keep the gates, to _sanctify_ the sabbath day. _Remember_ me, O my God, _concerning_ this also, and spare me _according_ to the _greatness_ of thy mercy.

11. Jesus Did Good on the Sabbath.
Matthew 12:11-13 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? [12] How much then is a man better than a sheep? _Wherefore_ it is _lawful_ to do well on the sabbath days. [13] Then saith he to the man, _Stretch_ forth thine hand. And he _stretched_ it forth; and it was _restored_ whole, like as the other.

12. Jesus Provided for the Physical Needs of His Disciples on the Sabbath.
Mark 2:23-28 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn _fields_ on the sabbath day; and his _disciples_ began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. [24] And the _Pharisees_ said unto him, _Behold_, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? [25] And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an _hungred_, he, and they that were with him? [26] How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high _priest_, and did eat the _shewbread_, which is not lawful to eat but for the _priest_s, and gave also to them which were with him? [27] And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: [28] _Therefore_ the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

13. God Rebuked Those Who Tried to Gather Manna on Sabbath.
Exodus 16:26-30 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none. [27] And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. [28] And the LORD said unto Moses, How long _refuse_ ye to keep my _commandments_ and my laws? [29] See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, _therefore_ he _giveth_ you on the sixth day the _bread_ of two days; abide ye _every_ man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. [30] So the people _rested_ on the seventh day.

14. The Divine Invitation Is to Find Rest in Jesus.
Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that _labour_ and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy, and my _burden_ is _light_.
