19-First Day Texts - KJV

1. The Sabbath Is a Sign Between God and His People.
Exodus 31:17-18 It is a sign between me and the _children_ of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was _refreshed_. [18] And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of _communing_ with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of _testimony_, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

2. The Sabbath Is a Symbol of Salvation.
Ezekiel 20:12 Moreover also I gave them my _sabbaths_, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that _sanctify_ them.

Hebrews 4:4-6 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. [5] And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. [6] Seeing _therefore_ it _remaineth_ that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first _preached_ entered not in because of _unbelief_:

Hebrews 4:9 There _remaineth_ _therefore_ a rest to the people of God.

3. Jesus' Closest Followers Would Not Embalm His Body on the Sabbath.
Luke 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day _according_ to the _commandment_.

4. His Disciples Visit the Tomb on the 1st Day to Embalm His Body.
Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the _sepulchre_, bringing the spices which they had _prepared_, and certain others with them.

5. The Women Come to the Tomb on the 1st Day.
Matthew 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary _Magdalene_ and the other Mary to see the _sepulchre_.

Mark 16:2 And very early in the _morning_ the first day of the week, they came unto the _sepulchre_ at the rising of the sun.

6. Jesus Was Risen on the 1st Day.
Mark 16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he _appeared_ first to Mary _Magdalene_, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

7. Mary Visited the Tomb Before She Knew That Jesus Had Risen.
John 20:1 The first day of the week _cometh_ Mary _Magdalene_ early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

8. The Symbol of the Resurrection Is Baptism, Not Sunday Worship.
Romans 6:3-5 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? [4] Therefore we are buried with him by _baptism_ into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in _newness_ of life. [5] For if we have been _planted_ _together_ in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his _resurrection_:

9. Paul Preached Saturday Night and Then Traveled on Sunday. Sunday Begins at Sundown Saturday Evening.
Acts 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the _disciples_ came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and _continued_ his speech until midnight.

10. The Disciples Assemble on the 1st Day of the Week Out of Fear-Not Worship.
John 20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the _disciples_ were _assembled_ for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

11. The 1st Day of the Week Is a Good Time to Lay Aside An Offering for the Lord's Work.
1 Corinthians 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath _prospered_ him, that there be no _gatherings_ when I come.

12. God Blessed the Seventh-Day Sabbath at Creation.
Genesis 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were _finished_, and all the host of them. [2] And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. [3] And God blessed the seventh day, and _sanctified_ it: _because_ that in it he had rested from all his work which God _created_ and made.

13. Our Love for God Leads Us to Fulfill, Or Keep the Law.
Romans 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his _neighbour_: therefore love is the _fulfilling_ of the law.

14. Jesus Did Not Come to Destroy But to Fulfill the Law.
Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the _prophets_: I am not come to destroy, but to _fulfil_.

15. When We Come to God Through His Spirit, He Enables Us to Keep His Law.
Romans 8:4 That the _righteousness_ of the law might be _fulfilled_ in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
