17-Sabbath - RSV

1. God's Final Message Is a Call to Worship the Creator.
Revelation 14:6-7 Then I saw another angel flying in _midheaven_, with an eternal gospel to _proclaim_ to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and tongue and people; [7] and he said with a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, for the hour of his _judgment_ has come; and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the _fountains_ of water."

2. The Basis of All Worship Is the Fact That God Created Us.
Revelation 4:11 "Worthy art thou, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for thou didst create all things, and by thy will they _existed_ and were _created_."

3. Jesus Is Our Creator and We Are to Worship Him.
Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the plan of the _mystery_ hidden for ages in God who _created_ all things;

4. We Worship Our Creator by Keeping the Sabbath.
Exodus 20:8-11 "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. [9] Six days you shall labor, and do all your work; [10] but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your _daughter_, your _manservant_, or your _maidservant_, or your cattle, or the _sojourner_ who is within your gates; [11] for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; _therefore_ the LORD blessed the sabbath day and _hallowed_ it.

5. God Set the Sabbath Apart at Creation by Resting on It.
Genesis 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. [2] And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done. [3] So God _blessed_ the seventh day and _hallowed_ it, _because_ on it God rested from all his work which he had done in _creation_.

6. The Sabbath Was Given to Mankind 2, 300 Years Before the Existence of the Jews.
Mark 2:27-28 And he _said_ to them, "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath; [28] so the Son of man is _lord_ even of the sabbath."

7. The Sabbath Was Established for All Mankind As a Sign Between God and His People.
Ezekiel 20:12 Moreover I gave them my _sabbaths_, as a sign between me and them, that they might know that I the LORD _sanctify_ them.

Ezekiel 20:20 And hallow my _sabbaths_ that they may be a sign _between_ me and you, that you may know that I the LORD am your God.

8. Jesus Was a Faithful Sabbath Keeper.
Luke 4:16 And he came to _Nazareth_, where he had been brought up; and he went to the _synagogue_, as his custom was, on the sabbath day. And he stood up to read;

9. Jesus Predicted That the Sabbath Would Be Kept in 70 A. D.
Matthew 24:20 Pray that your flight may not be in _winter_ or on a _sabbath_.

10. Paul Met with the Whole City to Worship on the Sabbath with Jews and Gentiles Alike.
Acts 13:42-44 As they went out, the people begged that these things might be told them the next sabbath. [43] And when the meeting of the _synagogue_ broke up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism _followed_ Paul and Barnabas, who spoke to them and urged them to _continue_ in the grace of God. [44] The next sabbath almost the whole city _gathered_ together to hear the word of God.

11. Paul Met with a Group of Believers in Philippi to Worship on the Sabbath.
Acts 16:13 And on the sabbath day we went outside the gate to the _riverside_, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down and spoke to the women who had come _together_.

12. The Lord Has Special Day at the End of the 1st Century.
Revelation 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard _behind_ me a loud voice like a _trumpet_

13. Since the Son of Man Is Lord of the Sabbath, It Must Be His Day.
Matthew 12:8 For the Son of _man_ is lord of the _sabbath_."

Mark 2:27-28 And he _said_ to them, "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath; [28] so the Son of man is _lord_ even of the sabbath."

Luke 6:5 And he _said_ to them, "The Son of man is lord of the _sabbath_."

14. Note the Following Three Days in Succession. Friday - the Day Christ Died-The Preparation Day.
Luke 23:53-56 Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud, and laid him in a rock-hewn tomb, where no one had ever yet been laid. [54] It was the day of _Preparation_, and the sabbath was _beginning_. [55] The women who had come with him from Galilee followed, and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid; [56] then they returned, and prepared spices and _ointments_. On the sabbath they rested _according_ to the _commandment_.

15. Saturday - the Day Jesus Rested in the Tomb on the Day Between Friday and Sunday.
Jesus rested in the grave while His followers also rested on that Sabbath, waiting until the next day to use the spices and ointments that they had prepared for His body on the preparation day which was Friday.

 16. Sunday - the Day Jesus Was Resurrected.
Luke 24:1 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the _spices_ which they had _prepared_.

17. Jesus Is the Same Yesterday, Today and Forever.
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus _Christ_ is the same _yesterday_ and today and for ever.

18. In the New Heavens and the New Earth, We Shall Keep Sabbath Each Week.
Isaiah 66:22-23 "For as the new _heavens_ and the new earth which I will make shall remain before me, says the LORD; so shall your _descendants_ and your name remain. [23] From new moon to new moon, and from sabbath to sabbath, all flesh shall come to _worship_ before me, says the LORD.
