17-Sabbath - NIV

1. God's Final Message Is a Call to Worship the Creator.
Revelation 14:6-7 Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to _proclaim_ to those who live on the earth--to every nation, tribe, _language_ and people. [7] He said in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his _judgment_ has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the _springs_ of water."

2. The Basis of All Worship Is the Fact That God Created Us.
Revelation 4:11 "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to _receive_ glory and honor and power, for you created all _things_, and by your will they were created and have their being."

3. Jesus Is Our Creator and We Are to Worship Him.
Ephesians 3:9 And to make plain to _everyone_ the _administration_ of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.

4. We Worship Our Creator by Keeping the Sabbath.
Exodus 20:8-11 "_Remember_ the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. [9] Six days you shall labor and do all your work, [10] but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or _daughter_, nor your _manservant_ or _maidservant_, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. [11] For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. _Therefore_ the LORD _blessed_ the Sabbath day and made it holy.

5. God Set the Sabbath Apart at Creation by Resting on It.
Genesis 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were _completed_ in all their vast array. [2] By the seventh day God had _finished_ the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. [3] And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, _because_ on it he rested from all the work of _creating_ that he had done.

6. The Sabbath Was Given to Mankind 2, 300 Years Before the Existence of the Jews.
Mark 2:27-28 Then he _said_ to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. [28] So the Son of Man is _Lord_ even of the Sabbath."

7. The Sabbath Was Established for All Mankind As a Sign Between God and His People.
Ezekiel 20:12 Also I gave them my _Sabbaths_ as a sign _between_ us, so they would know that I the LORD made them holy.

Ezekiel 20:20 Keep my _Sabbaths_ holy, that they may be a sign between us. Then you will know that I am the LORD _your_ God."

8. Jesus Was a Faithful Sabbath Keeper.
Luke 4:16 He went to _Nazareth_, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the _synagogue_, as was his custom. And he stood up to read.

9. Jesus Predicted That the Sabbath Would Be Kept in 70 A. D.
Matthew 24:20 Pray that your flight will not take place in _winter_ or on the _Sabbath_.

10. Paul Met with the Whole City to Worship on the Sabbath with Jews and Gentiles Alike.
Acts 13:42-44 As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the _synagogue_, the people invited them to speak further about these things on the next Sabbath. [43] When the _congregation_ was _dismissed_, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who talked with them and urged them to continue in the grace of God. [44] On the next Sabbath almost the whole city _gathered_ to hear the word of the Lord.

11. Paul Met with a Group of Believers in Philippi to Worship on the Sabbath.
Acts 16:13 On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we _expected_ to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had _gathered_ there.

12. The Lord Has Special Day at the End of the 1st Century.
Revelation 1:10 On the Lord's Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard _behind_ me a loud voice like a _trumpet_,

13. Since the Son of Man Is Lord of the Sabbath, It Must Be His Day.
Matthew 12:8 For the Son of _Man_ is Lord of the _Sabbath_."

Mark 2:27-28 Then he _said_ to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. [28] So the Son of Man is _Lord_ even of the Sabbath."

Luke 6:5 Then Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is _Lord_ of the _Sabbath_."

14. Note the Following Three Days in Succession. Friday - the Day Christ Died-The Preparation Day.
Luke 23:53-56 Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid. [54] It was _Preparation_ Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin. [55] The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. [56] Then they went home and _prepared_ spices and _perfumes_. But they rested on the Sabbath in _obedience_ to the _commandment_.

15. Saturday - the Day Jesus Rested in the Tomb on the Day Between Friday and Sunday.
Jesus rested in the grave while His followers also rested on that Sabbath, waiting until the next day to use the spices and ointments that they had prepared for His body on the preparation day which was Friday.

 16. Sunday - the Day Jesus Was Resurrected.
Luke 24:1 On the first day of the week, very early in the _morning_, the women took the spices they had _prepared_ and went to the tomb.

17. Jesus Is the Same Yesterday, Today and Forever.
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same _yesterday_ and today and _forever_.

18. In the New Heavens and the New Earth, We Shall Keep Sabbath Each Week.
Isaiah 66:22-23 "As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me," _declares_ the LORD, "so will your name and _descendants_ endure. [23] From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all _mankind_ will come and bow down before me," says the LORD.
