16-Questions Regarding God's Law - NIV

1. Didn't Jesus Come to Do Away with the Ten Commandments and Establish a New Commandment of Love? Didn't He Say Just to Love God and Our Neighbors?
Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' [38] This is the first and greatest _commandment_. [39] And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' [40] All the Law and the _Prophets_ hang on these two _commandment_s."

2. It May Surprise You to Discover That Jesus Was Summarizing the Law As Given in the Old Testament.
Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your _heart_ and with all your soul and with all your _strength_.

Leviticus 19:18 " 'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your _neighbor_ as _yourself_. I am the LORD.

3. The God of the Old Testament Was a God of Everlasting Love.
Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD _appeared_ to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an _everlasting_ love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.

4. Jesus Declared, "On These Two Commandments (Love for God and Fellow Man) Hang All the Laws and the Prophets. ".".

11. In the Old Testament Men and Women Were Saved by the Christ That Was to Come. Each Lamb Sacrificed Pointed Forward to the Coming Messiah.
Genesis 3:21 The LORD God made _garments_ of skin for Adam and his wife and _clothed_ them.

Genesis 22:9-13 When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and _arranged_ the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. [10] Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. [11] But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!" "Here I am," he _replied_. [12] "Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do _anything_ to him. Now I know that you fear God, _because_ you have not _withheld_ from me your son, your only son." [13] Abraham looked up and there in a _thicket_ he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and _sacrificed_ it as a burnt offering _instead_ of his son.

12. In the New Testament Men and Women Are Saved by the Christ Who Has Come.
Acts 4:12 _Salvation_ is found in no one else, for there is no other name under _heaven_ given to men by which we must be saved."

13. With Jesus, There Is a New Power in a Person's Life.

14. Under the Old Covenant, Israel Promised to Obey God's Commandments in Their Own Strength.
Exodus 19:8 The people all _responded_ together, "We will do _everything_ the LORD has said." So Moses brought their answer back to the LORD.

15. All Attempts at External Conformity to God's Law Lead to Frustration and Defeat. The Law Which We Cannot Keep in Our Own Strength Condemns Us.
