1. Didn't Jesus Come to Do Away with the Ten Commandments and Establish a New Commandment of Love? Didn't He Say Just to Love God and Our Neighbors?
Matthew 22:37-40 And He said to him, " 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' [38] "This is the great and foremost _commandment_. [39] "The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS _YOURSELF_.' [40] "On these two _commandment_s depend the whole Law and the _Prophets_."

2. It May Surprise You to Discover That Jesus Was Summarizing the Law As Given in the Old Testament.
Deuteronomy 6:5 "You shall love the LORD your God with all your _heart_ and with all your soul and with all your _might_.

Leviticus 19:18 'You shall not take _vengeance_, nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as _yourself_; I am the LORD.

3. The God of the Old Testament Was a God of Everlasting Love.
Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD appeared to him from afar, saying, "I have loved you with an _everlasting_ love; Therefore I have drawn you with _lovingkindness_.

Psalms 40:8 I delight to do Your _will_, O my God; Your Law is within my _heart_."

14. Under the Old Covenant, Israel Promised to Obey God's Commandments in Their Own Strength.
Exodus 19:8 All the people _answered_ together and said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do!" And Moses _brought_ back the words of the people to the LORD.
