1. Didn't Jesus Come to Do Away with the Ten Commandments and Establish a New Commandment of Love? Didn't He Say Just to Love God and Our Neighbors?
Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. [38] This is the first and great _commandment_. [39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy _neighbour_ as thyself. [40] On these two _commandment_s hang all the law and the _prophets_.

2. It May Surprise You to Discover That Jesus Was Summarizing the Law As Given in the Old Testament.
Deuteronomy 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine _heart_, and with all thy soul, and with all thy _might_.

Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the _children_ of thy people, but thou shalt love thy _neighbour_ as thyself: I am the LORD.

3. The God of the Old Testament Was a God of Everlasting Love.
Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an _everlasting_ love: _therefore_ with loving kindness have I drawn thee.

14. Under the Old Covenant, Israel Promised to Obey God's Commandments in Their Own Strength.
Exodus 19:8 And all the people answered _together_, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses _returned_ the words of the people unto the LORD.

Exodus 24:3 And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the _judgments_: and all the people _answered_ with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do.

Exodus 24:7 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the _audience_ of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be _obedient_.

15. All Attempts at External Conformity to God's Law Lead to Frustration and Defeat. The Law Which We Cannot Keep in Our Own Strength Condemns Us.
Romans 3:23 For all have _sinned_, and come short of the _glory_ of God;

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is _eternal_ life through Jesus _Christ_ our Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:17 _Therefore_ if any man be in Christ, he is a new _creature_: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Romans 8:1 There is _therefore_ now no _condemnation_ to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
