5-The Divinity Of Christ - RSV

1. Immanuel - God Is with Us.
Matthew 1:23 "Behold, a virgin shall _conceive_ and bear a son, and his name shall be called _Emmanuel_" (which means, God with us).

2. The Word Was God.
John 1:1 In the _beginning_ was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

3. Jesus Declared His Self-Existence.
John 8:58 _Jesus_ said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, _before_ Abraham was, I am."

4. I Am Is the Name of God.
Exodus 3:14 God said to _Moses_, "I AM WHO I AM." And he said, "Say this to the _people_ of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'"

5. Jesus Forgave Sins.
Luke 5:20-24 And when he saw their faith he said, "Man, your sins are forgiven you." [21] And the _scribes_ and the _Pharisees_ began to question, saying, "Who is this that speaks _blasphemies_? Who can forgive sins but God only?" [22] When Jesus _perceived_ their _questionings_, he answered them, "Why do you question in your hearts? [23] Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Rise and walk'? [24] But that you may know that the Son of man has _authority_ on earth to forgive sins" --he said to the man who was paralyzed--"I say to you, rise, take up your bed and go home.

6. Thomas Testified That He Was Both Lord and God.
John 20:28 _Thomas_ answered him, "My _Lord_ and my God!"

7. The Father Addresses the Son of God.
Hebrews 1:5-9 For to what angel did God ever say, "Thou art my Son, today I have begotten thee"? Or again, "I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son"? [6] And again, when he brings the first-born into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him." [7] Of the angels he says, "Who makes his angels winds, and his servants flames of fire." [8] But of the Son he says, "Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever, the _righteous_ scepter is the scepter of thy kingdom. [9] Thou hast loved _righteous_ness and hated _lawlessness_; _therefore_ God, thy God, has _anointed_ thee with the oil of _gladness_ beyond thy _comrades_."

8. Jesus Christ Is Eternal.
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the _government_ will be upon his shoulder, and his name will be called "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, _Everlasting_ Father, Prince of Peace."

Micah 5:2 But you, O Bethlehem Eph'rathah, who are little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from _ancient_ days.

1 Timothy 6:15-16 And this will be made manifest at the proper time by the blessed and only _Sovereign_, the King of kings and Lord of lords, [16] who alone has _immortality_ and dwells in _unapproachable_ light, whom no man has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.

Revelation 1:18 And the living one; I died, and _behold_ I am alive for _evermore_, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.

9. Jesus Voluntary Sacrifice for Us.
Philippians 2:5-12 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, [6] who, though he was in the form of God, did not count _equality_ with God a thing to be grasped, [7] but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the _likeness_ of men. [8] And being found in human form he humbled himself and became _obedient_ unto death, even death on a cross. [9] Therefore God has highly exalted him and _bestowed_ on him the name which is above every name, [10] that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, [11] and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. [12] Therefore, my _beloved_, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my _presence_ but much more in my _absence_, work out your own _salvation_ with fear and _trembling_;
