4-Prophecies Of The Messiah - NKJ

1. His Birthplace.
Micah 5:2 "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the _thousands_ of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From _everlasting_."

Luke 2:1-7 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. [2] This census first took place while _Quirinius_ was _governing_ Syria. [3] So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. [4] Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called _Bethlehem_, because he was of the house and lineage of David, [5] to be registered with Mary, his _betrothed_ wife, who was with child. [6] So it was, that while they were there, the days were _completed_ for her to be _delivered_. [7] And she brought forth her _firstborn_ Son, and wrapped Him in _swaddling_ cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Note: The New Testament scripture reference has been associated with an Old Testament reference showing the fulfillment of each Messianic prophecy.

2. Virgin Birth.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall _conceive_ and bear a Son, and shall call His name _Immanuel_.

Matthew 1:23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name _Immanuel_," which is _translated_, "God with us."

3. Jesus Lineage Through Judah.
Genesis 49:8-10 Judah, you are he whom your _brothers_ shall praise; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your fathers _children_ shall bow down before you. [9] Judah is a lions whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him? [10] The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a _lawgiver_ from _between_ his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the _obedience_ of the people.

Luke 1:30-32 Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. [31] And behold, you will _conceive_ in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. [32] He will be great, and will be called the Son of the _Highest_; and the Lord God will give Him the _throne_ of His _father_ David.

Numbers 24:17 I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come out of Jacob; A _Scepter_ shall rise out of Israel, And batter the brow of Moab, And _destroy_ all the sons of tumult.

Matthew 2:1-2 Now after Jesus was born in _Bethlehem_ of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to _Jerusalem_, [2] saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to _worship_ Him."

4. The Messiah's Ministry.
Isaiah 61:1-3 "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the _brokenhearted_, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; [2] To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of _vengeance_ of our God; To comfort all who mourn, [3] To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for _mourning_, The garment of praise for the spirit of _heaviness_; That they may be called trees of _righteousness_, The _planting_ of the Lord, that He may be _glorified_."

Luke 4:16-21 So He came to _Nazareth_, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. [17] And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: [18] "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the _brokenhearted_, To proclaim liberty to the _captives_ And _recovery_ of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are _oppressed_; [19] To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." [20] Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the _attendant_ and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. [21] And He began to say to them, "Today this _Scripture_ is _fulfilled_ in your _hearing_."

5. Betrayed by a Friend.
Psalms 55:12-13 For it is not an enemy who _reproaches_ me; Then I could bear it. Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me; Then I could hide from him. [13] But it was you, a man my equal, My _companion_ and my _acquaintance_.

Matthew 26:47-50 And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great _multitude_ with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and elders of the people. [48] Now His _betrayer_ had given them a sign, saying, "_Whomever_ I kiss, He is the One; seize Him." [49] _Immediately_ he went up to Jesus and said, "_Greetings_, Rabbi!" and kissed Him. [50] But Jesus said to him, "Friend, why have you come?" Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him.

6. Betrayed for 30 Pieces of Silver.
Zechariah 11:12-13 Then I said to them, "If it is agreeable to you, give me my wages; and if not, _refrain_." So they _weighed_ out for my wages thirty pieces of silver. [13] And the Lord said to me, "Throw it to the _potter_"--that _princely_ price they set on me. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the Lord for the _potter_.

Matthew 26:14-16 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests [15] and said, "What are you willing to give me if I _deliver_ Him to you?" And they _counted_ out to him thirty pieces of silver. [16] So from that time he sought _opportunity_ to betray Him.

7. A Lamb to the Slaughter.
Isaiah 53:4-7 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. [5] But He was wounded for our _transgressions_, He was bruised for our _iniquities_; The _chastisement_ for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. [6] All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the _iniquity_ of us all. [7] He was _oppressed_ and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the _slaughter_, And as a sheep before its _shearers_ is silent, So He opened not His mouth.

John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming _toward_ him, and said, "_Behold_! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Acts 8:32-35 The place in the Scripture which he read was this: "He was led as a sheep to the _slaughter_; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He opened not His mouth. [33] In His _humiliation_ His justice was taken away, And who will declare His _generation_? For His life is taken from the earth." [34] So the eunuch answered Philip and said, "I ask you, of whom does the _prophet_ say this, of himself or of some other man?" [35] Then Philip opened his mouth, and _beginning_ at this Scripture, _preached_ Jesus to him.

8. He Would Be Pierced, Not Stoned.
Psalms 22:16 For dogs have _surrounded_ Me; The _congregation_ of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet;

Luke 23:33 And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they _crucified_ Him, and the _criminals_, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

9. What Would Become of His Garments.
Psalms 22:18 They divide My _garments_ among them, And for My _clothing_ they cast lots.

Matthew 27:35 Then they _crucified_ Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be _fulfilled_ which was spoken by the prophet: "They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots."

10. Jesus' Last Words.
Psalms 22:1 To the Chief Musician. Set to 'The Deer of the Dawn.' A Psalm of David. My God, My God, why have You _forsaken_ Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, And from the words of My _groaning_?

Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama _sabachthani_?" that is, "My God, My God, why have You _forsaken_ Me?"

11. Not a Bone Was Broken.
Psalms 34:20 He _guards_ all his bones; Not one of them is _broken_.

John 19:36 For these things were done that the _Scripture_ should be _fulfilled_, "Not one of His bones shall be broken."

12. Where He Was Buried.
Isaiah 53:9 And they made His grave with the wicked-- But with the rich at His death, _Because_ He had done no _violence_, Nor was any deceit in His mouth.

Matthew 27:57-60 Now when evening had come, there came a rich man from _Arimathea_, named Joseph, who himself had also become a _disciple_ of Jesus. [58] This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate _commanded_ the body to be given to him. [59] When Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, [60] and laid it in his new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a large stone _against_ the door of the tomb, and _departed_.

13. Jesus Resurrection.
Psalms 16:10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You _allow_ Your Holy One to see _corruption_.

Matthew 28:2-7 And behold, there was a great _earthquake_; for an angel of the Lord _descended_ from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. [3] His _countenance_ was like _lightning_, and his _clothing_ as white as snow. [4] And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. [5] But the angel _answered_ and said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was _crucified_. [6] He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. [7] And go quickly and tell His _disciples_ that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you."
