1 2 3 2 Thessalonians 1 - RWB Paraphrase (12 V) With Comments Go to top__ OR __Exit Comments 1 Paul, Silvanus and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the LORD Jesus Christ. 2 Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the LORD Jesus Christ. 3 It is fitting that we give thanks to God for you, because your faith has increased, as well as your love for one another. 4 We are happy to see your patience and faith, in spite of the persecution you are enduring. 5 This plainly indicates that at God's judgment you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6 And it is only just that God repay those who afflict you with affliction, 7 and give you relief, as He will do for us, when the LORD Jesus comes from heaven with His mighty angels. 8 In flaming fire He will deal out retribution to those who do not know God and did not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, being separated from God's presence and the glory of His power, 10 when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be admired by all those who have believed because of our testimony. 11 For this reason we always pray for you that God will count you worthy of your calling, and that He will fulfill every good desire and work of faith with power, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to His grace. 2 Thessalonians 2 - RWB Paraphrase (17 V) With Comments Go to top__ OR __Exit Comments 1 Now we implore you, brethren, in regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, 2 that you not be easily shaken in your belief or disturbed by either a spirit, a message or a letter falsely sent to you claiming to be from us, saying that the day of the LORD has come. 3 Let no one deceive you in this matter, for that day will not come unless the apostasy come first, that man of lawlessness who is to be revealed, the son of perdition. COMMENT: Paul is clearly saying that there will come a great apostasy in which the supposed church of Christ will lead many away from God's revealed will.
4 He opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or worshipped; So that he, as God, sits in the temple of God, claiming to be God.
COMMENT: He will claim to be God on earth.
5 Don't you remember me telling you about this when I was with you?
6 And you know what restrains him from revealing his purposes until the right time.
7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work and when the time is right, the One holding him back will stand aside.
8 Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the LORD will slay by the breath of His mouth, bringing him to his end when Jesus comes.
COMMENT: He will exist until Jesus comes.
9 He is the one who comes in the power of Satan with great signs and wonders,
10 and wicked deception for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth that they might be saved.
11 For this reason God will send them deluding influences causing them to believe what is false,
12 and they will be judged for taking pleasure in wickedness rather than believing the truth.
13 We should always give thanks, brethren, beloved of the LORD, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation though sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.
14 It was for this that He called you to our gospel, that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 So then, brethren, stand firm, holding to the traditions which you have been taught, whether spoken by us, or in a letter sent by us.
16 May our Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father, who has loved us, given us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,
17 comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
16 Now may the LORD of peace give you peace in every circumstance. The LORD be with you all.
17 I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand, which is what I do in all my letters.
18 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus, according to the commandment of God our Savior, and of Jesus Christ, who is our hope.
