Revelation - At A Glance

22 Chapters - Written about AD 90 by John.

Theme: Revelation reveals the full identity of Christ and gives warning to the lost and hope to believers. God is greater than anyone else in the universe. Jesus came to earth as a Lamb. One day God's anger against sin will be fully unleashed. When sin has forever been eradicated God will then create a new heaven and a new earth.

1-18_The Revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave Him to show His people what must come to pass. A blessing is promised to those who read the book. Jesus is described in symbolic terms that are repeated in part to each of the seven churches in chapters 2 and 3. Jesus says that He is the first and the last.

__19-20_John was told to write what he was shown, things which are and which shall take place. Seven is God's number: seven stars in His hand seven lamp stands.

1-7_A message to the church of EPHESUS: you work and persevere. You do not put up with false teachers. But you have left your first live. Repent so that you may eat from the tree of life that is in paradise.

__8-11_A message to the church of SMYRNA: I know your tribulation. Do not fear. He who overcomes will live forever.

__12-17_A message to the church of PERGAMUM: you dwell where Satan has much influence but you have held fast to your faith in Me. However, some of you believe false teachings that include false worship and acts of immorality. Those who overcome will receive a white stone with a new name that no one but you will know.

__18-29_A message to the church of THYATIRA: I know your deeds, your love, faith, service and perseverance. You are doing better now than at first. However, you have tolerated the false prophetess who leads my people astray with false worship and acts of immorality. Hold fast and I will give you a name that no one else has.

1-6_A message to the church of SARDIS: your name denotes life but you are dead. Wake up and strengthen what little you have for you have fallen very short in My sight. A few of you have not soiled your garments. These are worthy to walk with Me in white. If you do not change, I will erase your name from the book of life.

__7-13_A message to the church of PHILADELPHIA: I have put an open door in front of you and no one can shut it. You have a little power and have kept My word and not denied My name. I will keep you from the hour of testing about to come upon the whole world. Whoever overcomes will be made a pillar in the temple of My God.

__14-22_A message to the church of LAODICA: you are neither cold nor hot. Your lukewarm attitude makes Me sick. You think you are rich but you are poor. Buy My refined gold, white garments to cover the shame of your nakedness and eyesalve so that you may see. Those who overcome will sit with Me on My throne.

1-11_God the Father was seen sitting on a throne in heaven surrounded by 24 elders on 24 other thrones. There were seven Spirits (or the sevenfold Spirit) and four living creatures full of eyes: a lion, a calf, a man, and an eagle. Everyone around the Father's throne was continually saying, Holy, Holy, Holy.

1-14_The One on the throne held a book (or scroll) in His right hand. He asked, who is worthy to break the seals and open this book. The Lion of the tribe of Judah, also known as the Lamb, was able to open the book. Every voice around the throne attested to the worthiness of the Lamb to open this sealed book.

1-2_When the Lamb broke the first seal a white horse came carrying a rider with a bow and a crown and went out to conquer.

__3-4_When the second seal was broken a red horse went out whose rider had a great sword and took peace from the earth.

__5-6_As the Lamb broke the third seal one sitting on a black horse rode carrying some scales.

__7-8_When the Lamb broke the fourth seal an ashen horse named death and Hades followed carrying a rider who had power over the earth to kill with the sword, with famine, with pestilence and with wild beasts.

__9-11_When He broke the fifth seal souls were seen under the alter. They were asking, how long, O Lord, before you avenge our blood? They were each given a white robe and told to rest a little while longer until their number was complete.

__12-17_The He broke the sixth seal there was a great earthquake, the sun was black, the moon looked like blood, the stars fell and sky was split open. Every mountain and island moved out of its place and the people of power on the earth begged to be hidden from the wrath of the Lamb.

1-8_After this John saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, keeping the wind from blowing on the earth, the sea, or any tree. Another angel came with the seal of the living God to put in His servants foreheads. There were 144,000 of them with 12,000 from each one of the twelve tribes.

__9-11_After this John saw a great multitude that no one could number. They were clothed in white standing before God's throne. They had palm branches in their hands while they said, Salvation to our God Who sits on the throne. All who were around the throne fell on their faces and worshiped God.

__12-17_The ones clothed in white robes came out of great tribulation. They have made their robes white in the blood of the Lamb. They are in God's presence serving Him day and night. God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

1-5_When the Lamb broke the seventh seal there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. Seven angels with trumpets stood before God. An angel stood next to an alter with incense to mingle with the prayers of the saints.

__6-7_The seven angels prepare to blow their trumpets. The First Trumpet: Hail, fire, and blood caused a third of the earth, the trees, and the grass to be burned.

__8-9_Second Trumpet: Something like a great mountain fell into the sea causing a third of the sea to become blood. This killed a third of the creatures in the sea and destroyed a third of the ships.

__10-11_Third Trumpet: A great star called Wormwood fell from heaven on one third of the rivers and springs of water. One third of the water became bitter causing many men to die.

__12_Fourth Trumpet: A third of the sun, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars were smitten causing the day and the night to be darkened.

__13_An eagle flying in the mid-heaven said, Woe, Woe, Woe, to those living on earth because of what was yet to come.

1-12_Fifth Trumpet: A star fell from heaven and a key was given to the angel to open the bottomless pit. Smoke and locust came upon the earth. They were not to hurt those with God's seal in their foreheads. This went on for five months. Then the first woe was past.

__13-21_Sixth Trumpet: Four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates are released to kill one third of mankind with two hundred million horsemen. The rest of mankind did not repent of their works, of worshipping demons, of their murders or sorceries, or of their immorality and theft.

1-11_John heard seven thunders and was told not to write what they had said. Then John saw and angel with a little book. A voice told him to eat the book. When he did it was sweet in his mouth and bitter in his stomach.

1-13_John was told to measure the temple but not the outer court. The two witnesses prophesy 1,260 days. Then the beast from the abyss killed them and their dead bodies lay in the streets of Sodom and Egypt for three and one half days after which God raises them up and took them to heaven. Then there was an earthquake.

__14-19_The second woe is past and the third woe will come quickly. The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord Who will reign forever. The nations are enraged and the dead are judged. Those who belong to the LORD are rewarded. The temple of God in heaven was opened and the ark of His covenant appears.

1-2_A great sign (symbol) appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun and standing on the moon. She has a crown of twelve stars and is about to give birth.

__3-4_Another sign appeared in heaven: a great red dragon with seven heads, each having a crown. He also had ten horns. His tail swept away a third of the stars of heaven. He stood ready to devour the Child when He should be born.

__5-6_A male Child was born who would rule all nations. He was caught up to heaven. Then the woman fled into the wilderness where she was sustained for 1,260 days.

__7-12_There was war in heaven. Michael and His angels cast Satan and his angels out of heaven. Now the accuser of God's people could be overcome. The devil now knows that his time is short.

__13-17_The devil persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child. Escaping into the wilderness she was nourished for 3 1/2 times. The serpent tried to destroy her but the earth helped her. The dragon was enraged and made plans to destroy her offspring who keep God's commandments and the testimony of Jesus.

1-10_A beast came up out of the sea having seven heads. Each head had a crown. This beast was a composite of the beasts that represented the four great powers. One of the heads was fatally wounded and then healed. The dragon gave his power to the beast for 42 months. This beast blasphemed God and made war with the saints.

__11-18_Another beast came up out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb but spoke like a dragon. He makes everyone worship the first beast. Everyone needed a mark to be able to buy and sell. The beast had a number: six hundred and sixty six.

1-5_The Lamb stood with one hundred and forty four thousand of those who have His name and the name of His Father written on their foreheads. They sing a new song that no one else knows. They are blameless.

__6-7_Another angel came bringing the eternal gospel to everyone on earth saying, Fear God and give Him glory. His judgment hour has come. Worship Him Who made everything.

__8_A second angel came saying that Babylon the great has fallen. She has made all nations drink of the wine of her immoralities.

__9-11_A third angel followed saying, Anyone who follows the beast and receives its mark will be destroyed.

__12_Here is the perseverance (patience) of the saints who keep God's commandments and the faith in (of) Jesus.

__13_Blessed are the dead who die in the LORD from now on. Their works follow them.

__14-16_John saw One sitting on a white cloud with a golden crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand. An angel came out of the temple and said, The hour to reap has come. And He who sat on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth and it was reaped.

__17-20_Another angel came out of the temple and swung his sickle gathering grapes for the winepress of God's wrath.

1-8_John saw seven angels with the seven last plagues. Those who get the victory over the beast sing praises before God's throne. Each of the seven angels was given a golden bowl filled with God's wrath.

1-2_The first plague caused bad sores on those with the mark of the beast.

__3_The second plague turned the sea to blood and everything in it died.

__4-7_The third plague caused all the fresh water to become blood.

__8-9_The fourth plague was on the sun causing it to scorch men with fierce heat. They blasphemed God and did not repent.

__10-11_The fifth plague caused intense darkness on the beast's kingdom. Still they would not repent.

__12-16_The sixth plague caused the Euphrates River to dry up. The spirits of demons perform signs to deceive the whole world. Jesus says, Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his garments.

__17-21_The seventh plague was announced by a voice from the temple saying, It is done. There was lightening, thunder and an earthquake. Islands and mountains moved. Very large hail fell and men blasphemed God and they did not repent.

1-8_The great harlot, who sits on many waters, was judged. She sat on a scarlet beast. She was drunk with the blood of the saints. The beast which was and is not, is now about to come up out of the abyss and go to destruction.

__9-11_The seven heads of the beast are seven mountains. They are seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has yet to come. When he comes he will last a little while. The beast that was and is not, is also the eighth.

__12-14_The ten horns are ten kings who receive authority with the beast for one hour. They have one purpose and give their authority to the beast. They wage war against the Lamb but the Lamb will overcome them.

__15-18_The waters the harlot sits on are peoples, multitudes, nations and tongues. The ten horns and the beast will turn on the harlot. The woman is the great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.

1-4_Another mighty angel came from heaven with great authority, and cried, Babylon the Great is fallen. All the nations have partaken of her immorality.

__5-20_Another voice from heaven said, Come out of her My people, that you do not participate in her sins and receive her plagues. All those who benefitted from her will be destroyed with her. Rejoice because God has pronounced judgment against her.

__21-24_A strong angel threw a great millstone into the sea, saying, thus will be done to Babylon. She will be found no longer. In her was found the blood of the prophets and of the saints.

1-10_The sound of a great multitude was heard praising God in recognition of His judgments which are true and righteous. The Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.

__11-16_John saw Jesus on a white horse and described everything about Him in symbols. He will rule the nations with a rod of iron.

__17-21_The angel announces the end of all wicked people. They will not be buried, but will be eaten by the birds. Those who had assembled against God were thrown into the lake of fire.

1-10_An angel came from heaven and bound Satan for a thousand years. The righteous are given thrones from which to judge the outcome of God's justice. When the thousand years are completed Satan is released and once again deceives the nations.

__11-15_A great white throne is seen and all of the recorded deeds of the lost are shown from the books so that it is clear why they are lost. Then everyone whose name is not written in the book of life will be thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

1-8_John saw a new earth and then the new Jerusalem as it came down from heaven. A voice from heaven said, Now the tabernacle of God is among men. He shall wipe away every tear. There is no more unhappiness, pain or death.

__9-27_I saw a new heaven and a new earth. And I saw the New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. A loud voice said, Now the tabernacle of God is among men. He shall dwell among them and they shall be His people. He shall wipe away every tear. And He who sits on the throne says, Behold, I make all things new.

1-5_John saw the river of the water of life coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb. On either side of the river stands the tree of life.

__6-15_Jesus said, I come quickly. Do not seal up the words of this book for the time is near.

__16-21_I Jesus have sent My angel to tell you all that has been shown to you. Anyone who adds to or subtracts from the words of this book shall have a part in God's plagues which have been written about in this book. Yes, I come quickly.
